District & Sessions Court inaugurated at Chandel

The Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur, Justice K Somashekar, accompanied by Companion Judges - Justice A Bimol Singh and Justice A Guneshwar Sharma - inaugurated the District & Sessions Court, Chandel, at the Chandel Court Complex today.
According to a release issued by the High Court of Manipur, the inauguration ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Anurag Bajpai, Additional Chief Secretary; S Brajabihari Singh, Chairman of the Bar Council of Manipur; N Kumarjit Singh; President, High Court Bar Association of Manipur; Nungshitombi Athokpam, Commissioner (Law); N Keertichand Singh, Secretary (Judicial); L Nandakumar Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Chandel; Dharmendra Kumar, SP Chandel; Chandel District Bar Association, led by its president, RT Rebirthson; Khalter Khampa, general secretary, All Tribal Lawyers' Associa tion and other Senior Advocates and members of the Bar; and senior officials of the State Government and Judiciary.
The programme began with a welcome and keynote address by N Keertichand Singh, followed by presentations from the Chandel District Bar Association and the Deputy Commissioner, Chandel, highlighting the importance of the newly established Court in strengthening the justice delivery system in the district.
In his inaugural address, Chief Justice K Somashekar reaffirmed the judiciary's commitment to providing efficient, transparent, and timely justice to the residents of Chandel and its adjoining regions, noting that the establishment of a full-fledged District & Sessions Court marked a major step forward in decentralizing judicial access.
Justice A Bimol Singh and Justice A Guneshwar Sharma also spoke on the occasion, underscoring the judiciary's role in ensuring equal access to justice, particularly in remote and aspirational districts like Chandel.
RT Rebirthson, President of the Chandel District Bar Association, in his speech, expressed gratitude to the Chief Justice for fulfilling the long-cherished dream of the people of Chandel, noting that the establishment of the court would always remain a historic day.
Anurag Bajpai in his remarks, expressed the State Government's continued support in enhancing judicial infrastructure and manpower to meet the needs of the people.
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Ojesh Mutum, Registrar General, High Court of Manipur, followed by light refreshments.
Notably, with the inauguration of the District & Sessions Court at Chandel, it has become a full-fledged judicial district.
It may also be mentioned that Binny Ngangom became the first District & Sessions Judge of Chandel and commenced the court proceedings from today.
The Court of CJM, Chandel also started functioning from its new location at the Old DC building, Chandel.
The High Court of Manipur reiterated its mission to strengthen judicial infrastructure across all districts, ensuring equitable and accessible justice for every citizen of the State.
