Imphal, October 04 2025:
To ensure a safe resting ground for migratory birds during winter season, Bishnupur Forest Division has launched a focused antipoaching drive aimed at curbing illegal hunting and trapping of wildlife in key areas under its jurisdiction.
The drive, launched as part of the Wildlife Week Celebration 2025, covered several identified vulnerable locations, including Haotak Tampha Khunou, Haotak Khullen, Wangoo Terakhong, Kumbi, Kha Thinungei, Keirenphabi, Keinou, Irengbam, Keinou Mamang, Ngaikhong, and Toubul.
These areas are ecologically significant, particularly as habitats for various resident and migratory bird species that visit during the winter season, said officials.
During the operation today, the forest officials seized a total of seven nets used for illegal poaching activities.
The seizure highlights threats to avian wildlife, especially migratory birds, and reinforces the need for continued vigilance, said the Forest officials.
The anti-poaching campaign will continue throughout the winter season, with increased patrolling, surveillance, and enforcement measures.
The objective is to provide safe and undisturbed habitats for wildlife, especially during the critical migratory period, added the officials.
The Bishnupur Forest Division has also appealed to the public to support its initiative and to report any suspicious wildlife-related activities to the nearest forest office.
Collective action is essential to protect and preserve "our natural heritage" for future generations, said the Bishnupur Forest Division.
