Ukhrul, September 26:
Bereaved father of Laishram Phalguni, who died through a conspiracy hatched by one of his own relatives ( a woman), has categorically stated he would like to donate the amount of the compensation to be recovered by the proscribed KYKL from two accused murderers, for the welfare of the people.
Talking to media persons at the Press Club here today, Laishram Debendra said that his family is not in favour of accepting the amount, but would like to donate it for a good cause if it would benefit the people.
A final year student of BPT at Maodbidri Alvais College, Mangalore, Phalguni was found dead hanging from the ceiling fan of his rented room on March 16 this year.
But after the proscribed KYKL investigated the case, it came to light that Phalguni was actually murdered by five persons at the instigation of one Nandita, who is related to him through his marriage to one of her cousin sisters.
KYKL had rounded up Nandita and her boyfriend identified as Jotin, and put a ban on the other partners in the crime from returning to Manipur for life.
The outfit had also announced that Rs 5 lakhs each that have been taken as fine from Nandita and Jotin would be given as compensation to the bereaved family members of Phalguni.
While informing that KYKL has not yet handed over the said amount to his family so far, Debendra expressed the desire to donate the same amount towards the cause of setting up the proposed research centre on Chingoo Maichou Lourembam Khongnangthaba in the Manipuri Department of Manipur University.
'My family would like to donate the money for installing a status of Khongnangthaba and for setting up the proposed faculty,' he said, adding 'This is our desire, but I cannot say whether it would be accomplished or not'.
Debendra also expressed his gratitude to all the organisations and Meira Paibi bodies including that of his own locality for bringing out the truth and doing justice to his son, though he is no more.
'It is because of the efforts made by these organisations that the reputation of my family has been restored and saved us from living with ignomity,' a soft spoken Debendra said with humility.
In his gratitude, Debendra specially mentioned the names of KYKL, Bangalore Ma-nipuri Students' Association and women organisations like All Manipur Social Reformation and Development Samaj, Manipur Chingmi-Tammi Apunba Nupi Lup, Kei-shamthong Leikai Tara Apunba Nupi Lup among others.
