Imphal, September 26: Manipur Forward Youth Front (MAFYF) today observed the death anniver- sary of Luchinglen Lam-yanba Hijam Irabot at its head office with Front pre-sident Sapam Kangleipal in the chair.

Front secretary organi-sation Bekey Yambem gave the welcome address of the function attended by many volunteers.

All those who present at the occasion observed two minutes silence and offered floral tributes to the photograph of the departed leader.

Many reso- urce persons who spoke at the occasion appreciated the role and the contri-bution of Irabot in Manipuri society.

The Irabot Celebration Committee today observed the 54th death anniversary of Irabot by offering floral tributes at the life size status of the leader installed at Pisum Oinam Leikai.

Agriculture Minister Ph Parijat Singh, MLA Thok-chom Tomba Singh, CPI general secretary and chair-men of Control Commission M Ibohal were also present at the occasion during whi-ch a two minutes silence was also observed as mark of respect to the departed leader. Young Pioneers' Eng-lish School, Khurai Thong- am Leikai, Ukhrul Road also observed the death anniversary of Jananeta Hijam Irabot today.

The headmaster led the staff and students of the school in offering floral tributes and paying homage to the statue of the departed leader installed inside the school campus.

L Sotin-kumar, who is a leader of the Communist Party of India (CPI) was also present at the occasion.

Speaking at the occasion, headmaster Usham Dharmendra recounted the life history and the contribution made by Hijam Irabot during his lifetime to the Manipuri society.

If Irabot had not opposed creation of Purba- chal Pradesh, then the status of Manipur might have been like that of a district and the people lost their identity, he said, while exhorting the young students to follow the path shown by Irabot with a clear understanding of his ideals.

On the other hand, Irabot Celebration Committee, Kshetrigao Local would be observing the 109th birth anniversary of Jananeta Irabot tomorrow at Meetei Sanglen, Thambalkhong at 2 pm.
