The Manorama Death Inquiry panel today appointed Advocate Ch Narendra Singh to examine Thangjam Ongbi Khumanlei, the ailing mother of Manorama at her Bamon Kampu Mayai Leikai residence to speed up the inquiry proceedings.
Upon such appointment, the panel headed by C Upendra, retired District and Sessions Judge, asked the lawyer to record statements of Khumanlei at her residence at 10 am on Aug 1, Commission sources said.
The panel also asked the counsel to submit the recorded statements of the ailing mother on the same day, sources added.
Taking serious note of non-submission of affidavits, the panel has asked the counsels of all parties to submit the affidavits of their respective clients before it by 11 am of August 2, Commission sources further said.
Meanwhile, the panel testified two doctors of RIMS�s Forensic Department, who conducted the first post-mortem examination of Manorama on July 11.The two doctors are H Nabachandra Singh, professor of Forensic Department and Memchoubi Phanjaobam, senior tutor of the department.
Dr Nabachandra, who has so far conducted over 500 post-mortem examinations, testified that while examining Manorama�s body, her genital organs-uterus, vaginal canal, hymen, posteriors composure and surrounding areas were found injured.
Nabachandra, however, could not comment on whether sexual intercourse had taken place on her sometime before she died.
But he said that there are many points to differentiate in post-mortem and ante mortem injuries like haemorrhage, straining of tissues and clot sign of vital reactions, etc.
He further testified that Inspector S Gunindro Singh, OC of Irilbung PS had on July 22, seized the vaginal swap of the victim, packed and sealed in an envelope in the presence of two witnesses, on his production in connection with FIR on the case.
Nabachandra opened that the cause of death of Manorama was due to shock and haemorrhage caused by multiple firearm injuries and were ante-mortem in nature.
The manner of causation of injuries is homicidal in nature, he added.
The Commission would continue examining of Dr Nabachandra tomorrow.
Dr Memchoubi testified that while performing the autopsy of Manorama, the PM report form was filed up on the direction of her senior consultant Dr Nabachandra.
It is pertinent to mention here that the second PM was conducted following complaints from the family members of Manorama.
