Imphal, November 02 2016:
Former Minister and BJP's intending candidate C Doungel has categorically stated that the issue of Sadar Hills should not be seen from the perspective of communalism.
Asserting that the popular demand for creation of Sadar Hills district is quite justified, Doungel said that it does not mean separation from Manipur or disconnection from Ukhrul and Senapati.
He was speaking at a Kut celebration held at his Sanjenthong residence yesterday where many key supporters of Saikul AC's Congress MLA Yamthong Haokip left the MLA and allegedly pledged support to him.
Speaking at the gathering which was attended by many village leaders and social workers, C Doungel said that the demand for creation of Sadar Hills district is aimed at ensuring administrative convenience and uniform development.
Sadar Hills still remains neglected and backward and people living in Sadar Hills area face lots of inconveniences in travelling to Senapati district headquarters.
Asserting that the objections raised by some Naga groups lack rationale, Doungel said that all the communities living in Manipur should have some sense of magnanimity.
Pointing out that even Nagaland has 11 districts, Doungel asked if there is any harm in declaring Sadar Hills and Jiribam as full fledged districts.
Indulging in violence and bandhs/blockades in opposition to the district demands is rather destructive, Doungel said.
He also hailed the former Congress supporters who have changed sides to support him.
Former BJP Manipur Pradesh president M Bhorot and former MLA Salam Ibohal too spoke at the gathering.
