Imphal, March 01 2024:
Expressing strong resentment against omission of private member resolutions raised by them from the day's business agenda, Opposition Congress MLAs staged a walkout from the State Assembly on Friday.
NPF MLA Leishiyo Keishing today raised a private member resolution on updating NRC with respect to Manipur in the State Assembly today.
However, similar private resolutions moved by the Congress MLAs were not picked up for the day's business.
Questioning the omission of their private member resolutions from the day's business, the Congress MLAs protested vehemently before walking out of the House.
MLA K Ranjit asserted that private member resolutions should be inserted in the business agenda of Friday's as per convention and the State Assembly's Rule of Procedure and Conduct of Business.
There is only Friday in the course of the ongoing session but the private member resolutions raised by the Congress MLAs on working out a solution to the protracted Manipur crisis have been left out of the day's business.
This is rather unfortunate, Ranjit said.
Moreover, another private member resolution on the Kangla congregation held on January 24 was also left out of today's business agenda, he decried.
K Meghachandra also asked if there is any justification for leaving out the private member resolutions raised by the Congress MLAs from the day's business agenda.
He went on to ask, "Are we not members of the House?" .
Saying that they raised the private member resolutions as per rules, Meghachandra asked as to why their rights were forfeited.
As the Speaker interrupted by saying that K Meghachandra is a senior Member of the House who knows the rules, Meghachandra retorted by asking "What is senior?" .
Speaker Th Satyabrata asked Meghachandra not to make unreasonable charges against him but to sit down.
The Speaker also told the Congress MLA that he may leave the Assembly hall if he is not interested in attending the session.
As soon as Leishiyo Keishing started speaking on his private member resolution, the Congress MLAs walked out of the House.
