Imphal, July 29 2026:
The People's United Youth Alliance (PUYA) has demanded unconditional release of spokesman Oinam Nikarson who was arrested by a combined team of Imphal West commandos this morning.
According to a statement shared by Manipur Police on social media, an active member of PUYA, an unregistered organisation, was arrested today on the charges of extortion.
It identified the arrested man as one Oinam Nikarson (27) of Leimapokpam Mayai Leikai under Nambol police station.
Three receipt booklets and documents containing details of employees of Health Department were reportedly seized from his possession.
On the other hand, PUYA member Suraj Thokchom said that they have been inspecting the condition and functioning of Government health care centres across the State.
During one such inspection visit to Moirangpurel CHC on July 27, the CHC was found charging exorbitant fees for OPD tickets like a private clinic and a doctor delegating her duty to a substitute.
These sheer discrepancies were exposed to the people through the media, Suraj said.
He said that some influential people have been allegedly using police to silence PUYA for exposing such discrepancies.
But PUYA will not be deterred or intimidated by such tactics rather it will only motivate the alliance to carry on its activities, he said.
Asking the authorities concerned to release its arrested spokesperson without any condition, Suraj said that PUYA is prepared to launch strong agitation if Oinam Nikarson is not released at the earliest without any condition.
