Imphal, June 29 2025:
The Manipur Democratic Alliance (MDA) has submitted a memorandum to many NDA leaders including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National president JP Nadda to install a popular Government in place of the President's Rule.
Speaking to media persons at Babupara today, MDA convenor M Tombi expressed strong disapproval of how the State of Manipur is being put under the thumb of the Government of India just like the British did during the colonial period.
Installation of a popular Government is the common wish of the people, and as such, a popular Government must be installed at the earliest in place of the President's Rule, he said.
For years, the people of Manipur have been suffering on account of the COVID-19 pandemic and their misery was further compounded by the protracted violent crisis, Tombi said.
It's not the time for political parties to engage in mudslinging.
Setting aside all differences, political parties need to work together to form a popular Government, he said.
He also expressed elation on the unification of CSOs for the scheduled talks with Home Ministry officials.
He questioned the Government's inaction with regard to repeated attacks by armed Kukis against farmers working in the foothill areas.
Even today, there are many Kuki bunkers in the foothill areas, he said before asking the Government as to why these bunkers have not been dismantled till date.
