Tamenglong, May 28 2025:
The recently formed Committee on Protection of Indigenous People's Ancestral Land (COPIPAL) has announced a complete ban on the movement of Kukis in all territories of the Inpui, Liangmai, Rongmei and Zeme tribes of Manipur from June 2, 2025 .
The ban was imposed in light of the "unprovoked and orchestrated" attack on Konsaram Naga village on April 5, 2025 .
At least 10 people were injured in the attack including the village chief and chairman.
A press release issued by the Media Cell of COPIP AL has strongly condemned the attack and maintained that the act of aggression represents a direct affront to the dignity, safety, and rights of the indigenous Naga people.
COPIPAL imposed the ban as a mark of protest and a step towards safeguarding their ancestral land and people for lasting peace.
The ban will remain in force until the issue is resolved amicably and satisfactorily through dialogue and mutual understanding under the auspices of COPIP AL, said the press release.
COPIPAL has appealed to all stakeholders and communities to respect this decision and work towards a peaceful resolution that upholds the rights, identity, and security of the indigenous Naga people.
