Jailed in stabbing case

Imphal, October 27 2025:
A 29-year old man from Bihar has been sent to jail on the charge of stabbing a local youth on October 12 evening.
Accused Ranjit Kumar (29) s/o Gulab of Balha Ward No 7, Bihar staying at Nagamapal Phougeisangbam Leikai at present was produced before the Court of Duty Magistrate, Imphal West today after completion of the earlier judicial custody period from Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa and further remanded in judicial custody.
The accused was remanded to judicial custody on October 13 after he was arrested on October 12 night after he had surrendered at City police station on the same day.
Nongmaithem Naren (19) of Nagamapal Phougeisangbam Leikai lodged a complaint at the same police station stating that on October 12 at around 3 pm, the accused came to his shop located in his locality in inebriated condition and ordered him to 'change his phone' in a very impolite manner.
At this, the victim pushed him gently and the accused went away.
Later at around 5 pm on the same day, the accused came back and stabbed Naren from behind but fortunately the knife couldn't penetrate his back.
During the course of investigation, the accused surrendered before City police station and was taken into the custody of Imphal police station on the same night.
During interrogation, the accused admitted to having committed the charge levelled against him and also disclosed that he started consuming alcohol in his rented room located in the same locality from early morning onward before the commission of the crime.
The accused also disclosed that he was fully drunk and he couldn't remember the exact matter between him and the victim.
He said that there was a quarrel between them for a while after which he left the place and went to his rented room.
It was also disclosed that Ranjit Kumar went back to the victim's shop holding a knife at around 5 pm and stabbed the victim from behind.
