AR, CRPF, SANAKON, bank staff distribute essentials to public

Imphal, April 25 2020: As the lockdown due to COVID-19 continues, many government and non-governmental agencies, individuals are extending helping hands to lockdown affected people especially, orphanage and old age homes across the State.

As part of its effort, State Bank of India Staff Association (SBISA) Manipur Region, along with the contributions made by its members from different SBI branches in the State, has started distributing relief materials to orphan homes in the State today.

A team of the SBISA Manipur Region, for the first phase, extended relief to Sangga Muon Inn (Orphan Home) at Bijang, Tuibong, Churachandpur.

SBISA Manipur Region is planning to continue providing the same at other orphan homes located in the State in the next few days, said a statement of the association.

One Gurumayum Opendro from Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai also reached out to inmates of Blind School Heikakpokpi with rice, potatoes, edible oils, salt, pepper, onions, garlic, ginger, cabbages and daily used items.

Opendro also presented plant saplings to the inmates and were planted inside the school campus.

Sanamahi Lainingkon Sanglen (SANAKON), Imphal has also distributed edible items such as rice, dal, salt, cooking oil, onions potatoes as well as soaps to its members on April 24 and 25.Awareness on the guidelines of the WHO and State Government to fight the COVID-19 were also raised on the side-line of the distribution work, said a statement of SANAKON.

In face of the prevailing situation, the religious rituals of Salailen Sidaba held annually at Langol Ching on the third day of lunar month Kalen which falls on April 26 this year, has been cancelled, the statement added.

AR extends aids to many In the wake of ongoing lockdown due to novel coronavirus pandemic, the Assam Rifles have extended assistance to orphan homes in Churachandpur district including the 'Angels Place Orphanage'.

The assistance was extended after the veterans of the armed forces residing in the area identified the issue and approached the Churachandpur Sector Assam Rifles for assistance, said a statement of PRO IGAR (South).

The orphanage is home to approximately 160 children along with their guardians.

All the Assam Rifles units of Churachandpur sector, under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South), in the districts of Churachandpur and Pherzawl had voluntarily contributed approx 1,300 kg of rations for the orphanage on April 24, said AR.

Meanwhile, Chandel Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) provided necessary assistance to the civil administration and local populace of Chandel yesterday.

Safety kits and items like sanitizers, masks and gloves were provided to Pallel Police Station, All Tribe Women Organization, Pallel (ATWO) and Mankang villagers.

Essential supplies were also provisioned to the women of ATWO who were in the dire need due to lockdown.

The team of Assam Rifles also sensitized the villagers and members of ATWO about various precautionary measures like maintaining basic hygiene, sanitation, social distancing and other precautions to be taken to avoid the spread of disease.

They were made aware of the responsibility of community to control the spread of the pandemic, said AR.

Moreh Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) also assured it's impending support by distributing vegetables to rehabilitation centres, children homes and daily wage earners in border town Moreh on April 23 .

In order to elevate hardship of the local farmers due to restriction on movement due to lockdown/curfew, the battalion purchased vegetables (cucumber, carrot, beans, potatoes) directly from farms and distributed them to Addulam Rehab Centre, Agape Children Home, JJ Orphanage and daily wage earners said AR.

Apart from distributing essential items, the Moreh Battalion is also manning the border strictly, added AR.

87 Bn CRPF distributes essential items
Amidst the extension of Lockdown in Manipur due to Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, 87 Battalion, Central Reserved Police Force(CRPF) Uchathol distributed essential items to around 135 households at Kaimai Kuki village today.

The distribution of daily used and grocery items such potatoes, rice, edible oil, tea packets to the villagers was carried out under the supervision of HB Meitei, Commandant of 87 Bn CRPF at Kaimai Community Hall, said a statement.

Kaimai village chief Lenboi Singson and his colleagues also expressed gratitude to the Battalion for helping them with the items during such a harsh time.

Kaimai is a Kuki village, situated under Tousem Sub-Division, Tamenglong district.

109 Bn CRPF distributes medical items
109 BN CRPF under the aegis of IGP Manipur and Nagaland Sector has distributed face masks, hand sanitizers, hand gloves, hand wash and floor cleaner at Monsangei village today.

The items were provided to Hera Singh, village/club presidents of Mongsangei under its civic action programme said a statement of the battalion.

Dr Th Bidhyalaxmi (Medical Officer) of 109 Bn CRP gave a brief lecture on COVID-19 to spread awareness of the disease and its preventive measures.

She advised the residents to wear protective face masks and maintain utmost hygiene in their day to day affairs.

Narayan Balai, 21/C, (Commandant-109 Bn AOL) also appealed locals to follow all instructions issued by the Government as well as local administration.

He informed that 109 Bn has established 24x7 hours helpline to assist locals in respect of COVID-19.Vinod Sawant, Dy Comdt, Insp/GD- Sukhvir Singh and jawans conducted the programme maintaining social distancing.
