AMWJU hosts Ningol Chakkouba for women journalists

Imphal, October 24 2025: The All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) hosted a Ningol Chakkouba celebration for women journalists at the Manipur Press Club today.

Led by president Asem Bhakta, the AMWJU team organized a feast, following which phanek and innaphi (a traditional Manipuri women's costume) were gifted to women journalists, which are integral to the Ningol Chakkouba tradition.

The gifts were sponsored by the Directorate of Handlooms & Textiles, Government of Manipur and Chagan Rathor, Paona Keithel.

Additionally, a lucky draw was organized as part of the celebration, featuring first and second prizes along with consolation prizes.

Five women journalists were selected as winners.

In the lucky draw, Joyshree Usham of Impact TV won the first prize, a gold earring sponsored by Panthoibi Jewellery, Wahengbam Leikai.

The second prize, a gold ring sponsored by Leiren Jewellers, Sega Road Thouda Bhabok Leikai, was won by Indira Nongmaithem of The Sangai Express.

Three rice cookers sponsored by MAZO Hub, Keishampat Konjeng Hajari Leikai as consolation prizes were given to Jayalakshmi Thangjam and Olivia Jenifer Takhellambam of SKTV and Shanti Salam of Kangla Pao.

Former Fishery and Information Director Heisnam Balkrishna also contributed to organizing the Ningol Chakkouba feast.

The AMWJU president expressed gratitude to all sponsors for their support in making the celebration a success.
