Governor leads in extending Diwali greetings

Imphal, October 24 2022: Governor La Ganesan has extended his heartiest greetings to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Diwali, which falls on October 25 .

In his message, the Governor said that the festival of light signifies the triumph of good over evil.

He expressed hope that the light of Diwali will dispel hatred, enmity and disunity among the people of the State.

Conveying his warm wishes to the people with the arrival of Diwali, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that the festival of Diwali is celebrated to commemorate Lord Rama's return to Ayodhya after completing 14 years in exile.

The Chief Minister urged people to share joy and happiness with the less privileged sections of society on this occasion and to avoid the use of crackers for a clean and environment friendly Diwali.

Education Minister Th Basanta Kumar Singh prayed that the festival of light will bring happiness, success, progress and good fortune in the lives of people.

Meanwhile Nemcha Kipgen, Minister of Textiles, Commerce and Industry & Co-operation also conveyed her greetings with the hope that the arrival of Diwali will reinforce the spirit of unity, solidarity and peaceful co-existence among all the people of Manipur.

Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh, Health & Family Welfare Minister and Water Resources Minister Awangbow Newmai extended their wishes for a prosperous Diwali with the hope that it will bring universal compassion, inner joy, peace, love, brotherhood and unity.

MAHUD Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh also joined in wishing the people of Manipur on this Diwali while Power Minister Th Biswajit Singh called upon people to try and eradicate evils like jealousy, corruption, racism, violence etc from society and create a positive atmosphere of amity, brotherhood and mutual understanding which will strengthen the society and country as a whole.

Further, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president K Meghachandra has also extended Diwali greetings to the people with the prayer that the light of Diwali will dispel all evil and bring about happiness into the lives of the people and the State.

Adding to this, Major General Rajan Sharawat, VSM, IGAR (South) and all ranks of IGAR (S) also joined in extending warm greetings to the people on the auspicious occasion of Diwali and Ningol Chakkouba.

A statement from IGAR (S) has wished that the occasion will dispel hostility and conflict and usher in good health, happiness, peace and prosperity for all.

The Communist Party of India, Manipur State Council also wished the people on the occasion of Diwali.

Wishing the people of Manipur especially Ningols (women) ahead of Ningol Chakkouba, Meetei Christian Churches Council, Manipur (MCCCM) has urged all not to indulge in extravagant spending which would burden their loved ones financially.

The trending culture of giving extravagant gifts not only burdens the poor, but also paints the festival in a bad light, said the MCCCM in a statement.

It called on the people to celebrate the day as forefathers did and lift the spirit of the festival.

Ningol Chakkouba falls on October 27 this year.
