15 year old girl found hung to death

Moirang, August 23 2025: A 15-year-old girl was found dead, hanging at her residence at Thamnapokpi Makha Leikai under the jurisdiction of Moirang police station, yesterday around 11.30 am .

The deceased was a Class IX student.

Suspecting foul play, a Joint Action Committee (JAC) has been formed, demanding that the perpetrator/s be booked by August 25 .

Volunteers and supporters of the JAC staged a sit-in protest at Keipha Keithel today under the banner "Justice for the deceased" .

The protest demonstration was also attended by teachers and students of Loktak Christian Model High School, Moirang.

The JAC resolved to not claim the body until the culprit involved is arrested.

Speaking to the media, JAC convenor M Muton stated that following an investigation, it was discovered that a video clip of the minor girl had gone viral on social media, which may have led her to take the extreme step.

Demanding that the police arrest the person responsible for uploading the video clip, he cautioned that the JAC would launch an agitation if the culprit is not arrested by August 25.He said that they will submit a memorandum to the Governor, DGP and Bishnupur DC in connection with the suspicious death of the minor girl.

He said that the father of the deceased works at Tamenglong while her mother is a farmer.

The minor was found hanging dead when her mother returned home from work.

Her body was reportedly taken down before the police arrived, in the hope that she could still be saved.

Police have registered a case and investigation is underway.

Placards with inscription "End online abuse, protect our daughters", "Stop cyber crime, no more shame", "Protect students, punish criminals", 'Stop crime against students",-"Stop cyber harassment", "We demand capital punishment for the culprit", were used among others during the protest demonstration.
