Imphal, January 22 2026:
The registration of a police case against Khurai AC MLA Leishangthem Susindro Meitei for demolishing a school has proven that no one is above the law in a democratic Nation, said social worker Laitonjam Jayananda who contested the 12th State Assembly election in Khurai Constituency.
Addressing the closing ceremony of a five-a-side football tournament as chief guest at Khomidok yesterday, Jayananda, who is also the president of the Socio Economic Development (SED) Foundation, said that the filing of an FIR by clubs and meira paibi groups against Susindro for demolishing a school building at Khurai Heigrumakhong serves as a reminder that the law still prevails.
He said the school that the MLA demolished using heavy machinery was nearly completed.
Without resorting to violence, the people of Khurai have demonstrated to Susindro that no one, whether an MLA or a Minister, is above the law, he said.
It was a victory for democracy, Jayananda said, referring to the registration of a police case against the Khurai AC MLA.
Stating that those in power cannot act as they wish in a democratic Nation, he emphasised that the power of the people is mightier in a democracy.
Elected representatives must respect the law of the land not abuse power, he said.
