Imphal, June 20 2025:
Thangmeiband MLA Khumukcham Joykisan has formally announced to fund the installation of a lift at the Manipur Press Club (MPC), especially to ease access for elderly individuals attending events at the Club.
The decision came in response to the long-standing difficulties faced by senior citizens navigating the building's stairs during public functions.
Visiting the Press Club on Friday, the MLA inspected the site where the lift will be installed and informed that technical engineers will soon be engaged to assess the location before installation begins.

He said that the lift would have a minimum load capacity for eight persons.
Joykisan also quoted senior journalists as saying that in-spite of multiple ministers in the past assuring to install a lift at the Press Club, none of those promises had materialised.
As such, he decided to take up the responsibility himself and contribute to the media fraternity from his own source, maintained the MLA.
The announcement was made in the presence of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) president Asem Bhakta, Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM) president Khogendra Khomdram, and journalists and editors from various media houses.
Speaking to the media, Joykishan recalled his close association with journalists even before foraying into politics.
He said that he has always tried to assist media persons during times of need and illness, though he regrets missing a few cases.
His relationship with the press dates back to his tenure as president of North Imphal Sporting Association (NISA), during which he also initiated and funded the Manipur State League (MSL).
Under his leadership, NISA made a mark in the MSL and won the prestigious CC Meet.
Joykisan recounted during the foundation day of Manipur Press Club, which he attended earlier this year, he realised the pressing need for a lift in the Press Club building.
He said that he had never aspired to become a politician and that his gesture should not be seen as an act of someone with excessive wealth but as a meaningful contribution towards a community he deeply respects.
Emphasising the role of media in shaping society and ensuring development, the MLA urged journalists to continue upholding their responsibility as the torchbearers of truth.
He said that media's role is even more significant in the present context and encouraged media platforms, including television discussions, to focus on peace-building rather than engaging in blame games.
Development cannot prevail without peace, and people want to hear their voice through the media, Joykisan said.
He added that the foundation stone of the lift would be laid on an auspicious day and expressed hope that the foundation would symbolise a step towards peace.
