MU takes up STP on AI

Manipur University marked a significant academic milestone today with the inauguration of a short-term programme (STP) on "Advances in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science".
The 6-day programme, being organised by the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC) in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science, MU, is funded by the UGC.
The inaugural ceremony at the Court Hall of Manipur University today was attended by eminent academicians and scholars, who highlighted the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science, emphasising their ethical application.
The dignitaries present included the university's Vice Chancellor Prof N Lokendra, UGC NE Member Prof Irom Gambhir, MMTTC Director RK Bhubon and MU Head of Department of Computer Science Dr Khumukcham Robindro Singh.
Dr Kh Robindro stresedd on the increasing importance of AI and the need for its ethical use for social benefits.
Prof Irom Gambhir highlighted that the aim of the programme is to provide the participants an in-depth understanding of the latest advancements in AI and Data Science while promoting academic excellence and skill.
He elaborated on the applications of AI and Data Science in public welfare, defence, education and other sectors.
MU Vice Chancellor, Prof N Lokendra acknowledged and spoke about AI's potential in bringing about development, but emphasised that it should be approached responsibly.
The 6-day programme will see expert lectures, practical sessions and interactive discussions on emerging trends and applications of AI and Data Science.
