Imphal, March 19 2025:
The Zelianrong United Front (ZUF) has accused the NSCN (IM) of setting up camps in Zeliangrong areas to amass money for themselves.
Addressing the media at Hotel Imphal today, ZUF chairman Jenchui Kamei claimed that Zeliangrong people have given shelters to NSCN (IM) for their designated camps and general headquarters at Zeliangrong areas namely Hebron Camp at Jalukie, Peren in Nagaland; NP Battalion (Buning Camp) at Tamei in Tamenglong and Jadonang Brigade in Noney.
Alleging that the NSCN (IM), however, have been suppressing the voice, rights and interests of Zeliangrong people, he added that the recent alleged policy of NSCN (IM) to create another Battalion called "Eloi-Hau" at Laisong Village NC Hills in Assam is a direct challenge to the Zeliangrong people.
Further stating that NSCN (IM) which is in talks with the Government of India is not authorised to build camps wherever they want, Jenchui asserted that ZUF is prepared to counter the proposed Battalion at Laisong Village.
He went on to state that the gap between the Zeliangrong political aspiration and Naga National movement could not be bridged due to alleged political suppression by Naga Nationalists.
Jenchui also claimed that the NSCN (IM) wants to build a camp at Laisong to collect taxes and extort money, similar to their activities along National Highways 2 and 37 .
He urged the NSCN (IM) to stop their alleged activities of exploiting resources from Zeliangrong areas.
He further alleged that the NSCN (IM) has been using the 'incomplete' Framework Agreement and its demand for a separate Naga flag and constitution to deceive the people.
Stating that the ZUF, on the other hand, has held five rounds of talks with the Government following the signing of the Cessation of Operation (CoO) agreement on December 27, 2022, Jenchui noted that their dialogue demanding single administrative unit for Zelangrong people with Indian Union is progressing.
He appealed to all Zeliangrong intellectuals, political parties and people of other communities to extend support to make their movement successful.
About the crisis besetting Manipur since May 3, 2023, the ZUF chairman stated that they do not support either the Kukis or the Meeteis.
There is no place for violence in modem times, he noted while appealing to both the warring communities to lay down arms to restore normalcy in the State.
Other leaders of ZUF also attended the press briefing.
