NIA takes over arms loot case

Imphal, July 18 2025:
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the case of arms and ammunition loot from 5th IRB located at Chingarel Tezpur, Imphal East under Lamlai police station on February 13, 2024 night.
The NIA has re-registered a case after taking over the case already registered at Lamlai police station under different sections of IPC in connection with looting arms and ammunition from 5th IRB, Chingarel Tezpur.
The looting of arms and ammunition led to a confrontation between a mob and security personnel involving exchange of fire at the spot.
The NIA, in compliance with an order from the Ministry of Home Affairs, re-registered the case recently for investigation.
The NIA also prayed before the NIA Court Manipur for giving direction to Lamlai police station to hand over all the case related documents and seized material/exhibits, if any, to the Investigating Officer of NIA .
The incident took place on February 13 night when a large mob stormed the 5th IRB camp located at Chingarel Tezpur and looted arms and ammunition leading to a confrontation between the mob and security forces involving exchange of fire at the spot.
In connection with the incident, the Manipur Government ordered a magisterial probe to ascertain the fact and circumstances leading to the incident.
Notably, six persons were arrested by police for their alleged involvement in the looting of arms and ammunition and seven IRB personnel were also suspended.
