Two hurt, shops gutted

Imphal, November 15 2025:
A massive fire ravaged at least seven shops and injured two people at Laphupat Tera Konuma Thongkhong in Imphal West last night.
According to information gathered from the scene, the fire broke out at around 10.30 pm .
The injured have been identified as Md Himad Khan (37) and his wife, Abe who were sleeping in their grocery store when the fire erupted.
Both sustained severe bum injuries below the waist with Himad Khan reported to be in critical condition.
Himad Khan was initially taken to JNIMS before being shifted to RIMS for treatment.
The fire completely destroyed seven shops, including a grocery store, a pharmacy and a beef shop, among others.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
Preliminary estimates by locals suggested property losses of approximately Rs 80 lakh, though the exact figure is yet to be confirmed.
Personnel of Mayang Imphal Fire Sub-Station extinguished the flames.
Speaking to the media, Md Nasirmuddin, a former member of the local Gram Panchayat stated that personnel from Mayang Imphal Fire Sub-Station, Mayang Imphal police and Hiyanglam police responded promptly but the fire could not be doused before causing extensive damage, as they arrived when the blaze was already at its peak.
He urged the relevant authorities to provide necessary assistance to the fire victims.
