Harmful effects of drugs deliberated

An awareness programme on 'Drug use and its related harm' was organised by the Overcomers in coordination with the Manipur Network of Positive People (MNP+) at MNP+ office at Yaiskul Hiruhanba Leikai, Imphal yesterday.
The programme was sponsored by the Department of Social Welfare and witnessed the attendance of PLHIV community including People Who Use Drugs (PWUD), youths, members and staff of MNP+ .
At the outset, Leimapokpam Deepak, president, MNP+, thanked the sponsor and the co-organiser for conducting the programme.
He emphasized the need for such stakeholders to collaborate more often to minimize drug related harms including HIV and AIDS .
Speaking during the first session, Sagolshem Herojit, secretary, Overcomers spoke about the impact of drug use and its harm on individual health and social well-being.
In the second session, Phillip Laishram, Senior Counselor ART Centre, RIMS, deliberated on the consequences of drug use which affects ART adherence, which in turn, minimizes the efficacy of the treatment.
The final session of the day was addressed by Laikangbam Milan, in-charge, Adolescent Friendly DIC implemented by Psychiatry Department, JNIMS and supported by Manipur State AIDS Control Society (MACS) and Project Accelerate, YRG Care, who talked on drug overdose.
