Imphal, October 11 2025:
NPP, Manipur president Y Joykumar has stated that the party will constitute a high level committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the demolition of Manipuri Rajbari at Shillong.
Addressing the media at Naoremthong today, Joykumar noted that Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, who is also the National president of the NPP, had clarified that the Meghalaya Government was not involved in the demolition.
He also said that the land on which the Rajbari stood was transferred by the Meghalaya Government to the Manipur Government a few years back.
Saying that NPP will investigate the demolition through a high-level committee, he urged the Government to disclose the authorization process behind the demolition, especially since the building could have been preserved.
Responding to remarks by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Meghachandra on Conrad Sangma's visit to Manipur, Joykumar said he was astonished to hear the Congress leader implying that the visit would cause instability in Manipur.
Stating that the NPP chief didn't say anything which could cause fresh unrest in Manipur or destabilize the State, he accused the Congress leader of misleading the public.
He also noted that Conrad Sangma had responded to all media queries during his stay in Manipur.
Saying that Conrad Sangma addressed the media in simple English which was easy to understand, he added that Meghachandra's concerns may stem from his own misunderstanding of the speech.
Joykumar suggested that Meghachandra should revisit the recording of Conrad Sangma's speech to clear the confusion.
Saying that the NPP has never directly blamed Congress for the crisis in Manipur, he added that Meghachandra's baseless allegations have compelled them to respond.
Joykumar alleged that the Congress perfected vote-bank politics and accused the MPCC of working under the influence of high command by holding Vote Chor Gaddi Chod campaign in Manipur.
Joykumar added that the Congress party lacks credibility.
