Imphal, September 11 2025:
Little Clinic, Nagaram has successfully performed a laparoscopic completion choledochal cyst excision plus hepatico-duodenostomy, thereby providing the public with the facility of advanced GI surgery at the Clinic.
Speaking in this connection, Dr AD Sharma, Head, Surgical Gastroenterology and GI Oncology, said that though open GI surgeries are routinely performed in the State, the same is not the case for laparoscopic (keyhole) procedures.
This marks the 6th time the procedure was executed at Little Clinic, he added.
Elaborating on the case, he said that a 62-year female old patient from Hafiz Hatta, Imphal East was admitted at the Clinic on September 6 .
Early diagnosis detected a cyst in her bile ducts.
Subsequently, on September 7, a team led by Dr AD Sharma performed a laparoscopic surgery on the patient to remove the cyst.
The surgery took roughly five-hours and the team successfully excised the cyst from the patient.
She was kept in observation for a few days and finally discharged on September 11.Though the occurrence of bile duct cysts is uncommon in India, the incidence rate in Manipur is high in comparison with other states, he said.
As a result, patients often travel to other states to seek treatment incurring high financial costs.
However, with facilities for advanced GI surgery now available at Little Clinic, the financial and emotional burden on the family of the patients will be halved, added Dr AD Sharma.
