Protests continue at Bishnupur over arrest of Asem Kanan

Moirang, June 11 2025: Demanding immediate and unconditional release of Arambai Tenggol, fighting commander Asem Kanan who was arrested by the CBI on June 7, womenfolk of Bishnupur district staged protest demonstrations across the district today.

At Tronglaobi Awang Leikai Bazar, the Tronglaobi Awang Meira Paibi Lup staged a sit-in protest demanding the release of Asem Kanan.

Speaking at the sideline of the protest, secretary of Tronglaobi Awang Meira Paibi Lup, Kongkham Kunjeshori said that the since the eruption of the violence in the State on May 3, 2023, the volunteers of Arambai Tenggol have been protecting the territory of Manipur and are active role in extending humanitarian service when any disasters like flood or other issues occured in the State.

However, since the introduction of the President's Rule in the State, the PR Government is always after them, with frequent arrest of village volunteers not giving them a peace of mind.

Stating that the mothers of Manipur will always stand for them, she said that the PR Government must immediately halt such action against Arambai Tenggol in the interest of the people.

She also called for the formation of a Government immediately seeing the plight of the people.

During the protests, slogans like "Withdraw PR from Manipur", "We want peace,", "Form Government immediately," "Stop suffering the people", "Release Asem Kanan immediately", etc were raised by the protesters.

Meanwhile, womenfolk of Bishnupur district today staged a sit-in protest today at Bishnupur Bazar demanding immediate release of Arambai Tenggol, leader Asem Kanan.

The womenfolk after the sit-in protest, took out a rally from Bishnupur Bazar to Thongjaorok Thong condemning the arrest of Asem Kanan.

A protester named Bina, who took part in the rally said that Arambai Tenggol emerged as an organisation to protect the motherland and have also taken active part in saving the life and property of the people during the flood situation that devastated the State.

During the rally, slogans like "Arambai Tenggol safeguarded Manipur", "We condemn arrest of Arambai Tenggol volunteers", "The mother of Manipur will always stand for village volunteers", "We condemn the action of Manipur police", "Form Government immediately", etc were raised by the protesters.
