'Best' award to NIT Manipur

Imphal, July 10 2025:
Bringing recognition to Manipur, the National Institute of Technology, Manipur has been selected for the "Best University (National) Award" at the prestigious National Geospatial Awards 2025 (Edition II), organized by IIT Bombay's FOSSEE project under the National Mission on Education Through ICT .
NIT Manipur is the first technical institute from the entire North East to receive this recognition.
The award will be presented during the "Open Source GIS Day" celebration which will be held at IIT Bombay on July 17, 2025 with Kiran Kumar, former Chairman, ISRO as the chief guest, said a statement.
The award specifically acknowledges NIT Manipur's innovative teaching approach for adopting open-source GIS tools in course work and its contributions to geospatial science and technology, including its innovative curriculum, impactful research, and advanced teaching methodologies in GIS and remote sensing.
Professor DVLN Somayajulu, Director of NIT Manipur and Professor Kh Tomba Singh, Registrar NIT Manipur have conveyed that the award acknowledges the dedication of their faculty, researchers and students in advancing geospatial science and open-source innovation.
