RIMS Dean, Sub-Dean resign

Imphal, May 09 2025: In the midst of intense students' protest, the Dean and Sub-Dean of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) tendered their resignation yesterday.

However, undeterred students carried on with the agitation for the third day demanding the removal of the RIMS Director.

It is worth noting that MBBS, BDS, MRI, MLT, BASLP and BSc Nursing students of RIMS launched the protest on May 7 accusing the RIMS Director of using abusive language on the students and the Dean and Sub-Dean of harassing them with excessive punishment.

Till date, students of the medical institute have been staying overnight inside RIMS compound in protest.

Yesterday night, Dr Th Meera Dean (Academic) and Laishram Trinity Meetei, Sub-Dean (Student Affairs) submitted their resignation letters.

The Deputy Director (Administration) of RIMS has issued an order informing that RIMS authority has accepted their resignation.

On the third day of the agitation, the students said that their protest will not be suppressed with the resignation of the two officials.

It is pertinent for the Director who allegedly used inappropriate language on female students to be removed from the institute.

The students initially launched the protest as they could not tolerate his conduct, they maintained.

Stating that they tried but were unable to get an appointment with the Governor, they have appealed for an audience with Governor Bhalla to resolve the issue.

Saying that the agitation can be suspended with an acceptable solution, the students appealed for strict action against the RIMS Director.

They also urged the RIMS authority to refrain from issuing statements that might paint the students in a false light.

Today, the protestors held placards with messages such as "Why Director want us to be naked", "We accept punishment not harassment", "We are not puppets", "We condemn sexual harassment of girls", "We demand removal of Director", "Director dictator" and "Students deserve respect" .
