Imphal, July 06 2025:
Khurai AC MLA L Susindro has stated that he supports the Ring Road project, but its implementation should not impact Ipum Pat.
He made this statement during a ceremony where he handed over four newly constructed houses to families at Khurai Heikrumakhong who lost their homes in the recent floods.
This marks the second time the MLA has provided houses to flood victims.
At the event, Susindro highlighted the significance of Ipum Pat, noting its importance to the local community, particularly in Khurai.
Reiterating his support for the Ring Road project, the MLA emphasized that Ipum Pat, however, must be preserved and not impacted by any developmental initiative.
Susindro announced plans to initiate restoration work for Ipum Pat to its former glory and appealed for public support in this endeavour.
He further announced that an eviction drive will be conducted soon on the portion of Ipum Pat located on the western side of the Imphal-Saikul road to remove houses that have encroached on State's land.
The MLA, meanwhile, expressed disappointment over Forest officials allegedly obstructing people from excavating soil to repair river embankments damaged in the recent floods.
Continuing that the Forest officials should understand the public's concerns, given the alleged efforts to file around 1000 PILs against the Forest department, he added that the soil was needed for repairing river embankments, not for personal use.
The MLA spoke out against the encroachment of river embankments, emphasizing that building houses, shops etc on riverbanks is a significant factor in the collapse of these embankments.
He appealed to local clubs to join efforts in preventing encroachment on riverbanks and dumping waste on rivers.
