10th death anniversary of Robinhood observed

Imphal, July 05 2025: The 10th death anniversary of Lamjing Meira Sapam Robinhood would be observed at Lamjing Meira Ching (Awaching) on July 8 .

Speaking to media persons at Lamjing Meira Ching, named after Sapam Robinhood, where a memorial of Robinhood stands, JCILPS Women Wing convenor Keisham (O) Kumudini recalled that Sapam Robinhood died for the common cause of the people of Manipur.

His untimely death has given a light of hope to the future generations, Kumudini said.

She then appealed to all CSOs, youth clubs, Meira Paibi organisations and the public to attend the 10th death anniversary of Sapam Robinhood which would be held on July 8.Considering the present situation of Manipur, the death anniversary function may be limited to offering floral tributes to the student martyr, she said.

JCILPS co-convenor Md Kheiruddin Shah Moirangmayum said that the Manipur Inner Line Permit Guideline 2019 which came into effect from January 1, 2020 is literally toothless.

The cut off base year specified in the ineffective guideline is 1961 whereas the JCILPS has been de manding to set 1951 as the cut off base year, he said.

Several memorandums have been submitted to the Government to amend the base year and there is a need to pursue the same matter collectively, Kheiruddin said.

He also appealed to the Government authorities to be very meticulous and stringent when it comes to Aadhaar enrolment and updation.

The JCILPS co-convenor urged the authorities concerned to give special attention to detection of illegal immigrants in the process of Aadhaar enrolment and updation.

The JCILPS has already talked with Deputy Commissioners on the matter, he said.

Saying that the JCILPS will strictly monitor the process of Aadhaar enrolment and updation, he urged the authorities concerned not to let off all those people who commit discrepancies in Aadhaar enrolment and updation.

The death anniversary of Lamjing Meira Sapam Robinhood should not be restricted to offering of floral tributes and paying respect to the student martyr.

The death anniversary will be more meaningful if all the people adopt a firm resolution on the occasion to protect the future generations and act accordingly, he said.

Notably, Sapam Robinhood died due to injuries in a police crackdown on protesters, comprising mostly students who were demanding implementation of the ILP System in Manipur on July 8, 2015 at Minuthong.

The last rites of Sapam Robinhood, then 16 years old and studying in Ananda Singh Higher Secondary School, were performed at Awaching on September 3, 2015 .

After Sapam Robinhood was given the title "Lamjing Meira", the spot where his last rites were performed was renamed Lamjing Meira Ching.
