Imphal, September 26 2011:
A public meeting held today at Japhou Bazar, Chandel has resolved to appeal to the Tata Sumo Welfare Association, Kakching to Imphal, Imphal Moreh Road Transporters and Business Association and the All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Workers Union to lift the counter blockade being imposed at Kakching Lamkhai immediately.
In case the counter blockade is not lifted, the Chandel public would be compelled to take up necessary steps deemed fit, said a press release issued by the Chandel Naga People's Organisation.
It also quoted the statement of Tengnoupal police station OC Tomba that the unfortunate incident that took place near Thamnapokpi village was due to over-loading of the vehicle and not caused by bandh volunteers.
In another press release, the CNPO, the Naga Women Union Chandel and the Naga Students Union Chandel contended that the Thamnapokpi incident of September 23 was a result of two vehicles trying to overtake each other.

The same incident should not in any manner be construed that the villagers has any hand in it.
The bandh is being enforced by the Nagas to protect their collective land.
The villagers are out of the purview of the incident and therefore targeting any of the villagers would be out of any conventional human law and would not be tolerated, they said.
Clarifying that the enforced bandh is not targeted against any community but against the policy of the State Government which is allegedly playing with the land of the Nagas, the three organisations condemned the vandalism committed by transporters at Kakching Lamkhai.
Saying that the targeted persons and vandalised vehicles belonged to people of particular area, the three organisations maintained that no UNC bandh volunteers targeted people on communal line, leave aside focusing on any particular area.
