Imphal, September 04:
Virtually ruling out involvement of 28 Assam Rifles personnel as alleged for the death of Saichang village Pastor Jamkholet Khongsai, Thoubal police reported personnel of 21 Para Trooper battalion had operated at the general area of Saichang village on the day when Jamkholet had gone missing.
Following a complaint filed by the Chairman of Kuki Movement for Human Rights the Thoubal SP submitted a report on the matter before the Manipur Human Rights Commission.
Mention may be made that bullet riddled body of pastor Jamkholet was found buried near Bongyang village under Yairipok police station on July 8 morning - a day after he went missing.
MHRC had on August 3 asked the DGP to submit a detailed report within four weeks following the Kuki rights body's petition.
In consonance with the MHRC intimation the Thoubal SP in his report stated that Jamkholet's body was found near Litan Hill and three empty cases of AK rifles retrieved from near the body during spot inspection.
In the course of further investigation, a number of local witnesses were examined based on which it could be reliably learnt of security personnel who operated near Saichang village as belonging to the 21 Para Trooper (special force) stationed at Kakching and not as alleged (28 AR), the report mentioned.
The police report further stated of 9 Sector headquarters informing that no personnel under its command had operated at the said village on July 8 this year.
However, formal intimation has not been received from the 10 Sector Hqs of the Assam Rifles/Army, contended the police report while adding of further investigation going on is good progress.
