AR pays tribute to bravehearts

Imphal, July 24 2025:
In a solemn tribute to its enduring military ethos and rich traditions, Assam Rifles conducted a wreath laying ceremony in honour of Colonel TS Mahil, SM (Posthumous) and Lance Naik Kushal Singh, SM (Posthumous) .
The ceremony paid homage to these gallant soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice demonstrating unwavering courage and dedication during counter-insurgency operations at Lodhi Basti, Assam, on July 24, 1994 .
According to a release issued by HQ IGAR (South), on that fateful day, Colonel TS Mahil was visiting Lodhi Basti when the vehicle carrying him and his escorts came under intense enemy fire.
Both Colonel Mahil and Lance Naik Kushal Singh sustained critical bullet wounds at the initial stage of the attack.
Lance Naik Kushal Singh succumbed instantly while Colonel Mahil was evacuated to a civil hospital where he later passed away due to excessive blood loss.
Their valiant efforts in confronting insurgents with complete disregard for personal safety exemplified the highest ideals of military service.
In recognition of their bravery, both were posthumously awarded the Sena Medal.
The ceremony commenced with the laying of floral wreaths by senior officials and troops of the unit amid full military honours.
A two-minute silence was observed in reverence to the memory of these heroic servicemen.
Over 150 personnel of Assam Rifles including senior officers attended the event.
