Kakching, August 12 2025:
An engineering team of the Minor Irrigation Department, accompanied by representatives of Kakching Ithei Committee, conducted an inspection of the Kakching Ithei Maru pick-up weir on Tuesday to assess its condition.
The dam, a key source of irrigation for the paddy fields of Kakching and adjoining areas, has been left unattended for a long period, resulting in significant wear and damage.
This year's heavy rains have further worsened the situation, causing damage to one of the dam's walls.
Speaking to reporters during the inspection, Ithei Committee presi dent Yengkhom Achouba informed that the dam is vital source of water to irrigate the field.
However, crack in the wall has raised fears among villagers that it may hinder agricultural activities.
In response to the committee's appeal, Minor Irrigation department executive engineer Th Dayananda, along with his team, visited the site and inspected the damage.
Officials informed that the cracked wall would be repaired using RCC construction, while overall repair works on the dam would also be initiated soon.
Committee general secretary Kshetrimayum Ram-choron was also present during the inspection visit.
