Imphal, July 04 2025:
Biramangol College Students' Union (BCSU) has launched a shutdown protest at the college demanding immediate appointment of a new principal.
The protest began on Friday and will continue until the government addresses the union's demand, BCSU announced.
Addressing a press conference at Manipur Press Club, BCSU general secretary Mukesh Mangang Nameirakpam said that the union has been protesting since June 23 following revelations of alleged corruption involving the incumbent principal O Premila Chanu and IQAC coordinator S Rajen.
He said the government has failed to take action despite the serious nature of the allegations.
Mukesh stated that as the principal has remained absent from the college since the protest began, both academic and administrative functions have been severely affected.
He added that the authorities had earlier assured the disclosure of an enquiry report by June 30, but no such report has been made public so far.
The union is now demanding that the department concerned appoint a new principal by July 10.Mukesh warned that the protest would be intensified if the government continues to ignore the students' demand.
