Father escapes mudslide, son dies

CCpur, July 16 2025: In a tragic incident, a father and son were swept away by a mudslide triggered by heavy rainfall last night while they were sleeping in their jhum field hut.

As per reports, Paogin and his son Sonminthang, hailing from Old Phaisat village under Henglep Sub-Division in Churachandpur district, had gone to their field intending to stay there for some days when the disaster struck.

According to sources from the Kuki Khanglai Lompi (KKL), a philanthropic organisation, Paogin managed to escape the slide, but his son was buried under the debris and carried downhill.

Following the incident, residents from nearby villages conducted search for the missing Sonminthang but remained untraceable for several hours.

Later, around 1 pm, the lifeless body of Sonminthang was recovered along the banks of the Mimva River.

It is believed he was carried downstream by the force of the mudslide and floodwaters.
