Arts Society felicitates award-winning artists

Imphal, August 12 2025: Arts Society Manipur felicitated three artists, including a National Lalit Kala Akademi awardee, at a ceremony held at Manipur Press Club on Tuesday.

Those honoured were National Lalit Kala Akademi Award 2022 recipient P Premananda Singh, and Manipur State Kala Akademi Award 2022 winners A Joychandra Sharma and S Manorama Devi.

They were presented with gifts in recognition of their achievements.

Retired IAS officer M Joy attended as chief guest, with Arts Society Manipur former president Kulachandra Moirangthem presiding over the function.

In his address, Joy said that a sculpture tells story to society, even when words cannot.

He linked artistic expression to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), noting that the 17-point agenda aims to empower youth to contribute positively to society.

The chief guest noted that while many young people are educated and successful, some are bereft of personality.

"Calmness is part of personality.

Artists often embody these qualities," he said, urging people to let go of anger and frustration.

He called upon the creative community to play a larger role in building a new society by using the innovative ideas of artists to bring about change.
