Oriental College observes Population Day

The Department of Economics, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Oriental College, Imphal, observed the 35th World Population Day with a special programme on Friday at the college's conference hall.
Themed "Empowering Young People to Create the Families They Want in a Fair and Hopeful Future", the event focused on the importance of youth empowerment in shaping sustainable family structures.
Speakers at the event urged the government to address population-related issues with seriousness, stressing the need for region-specific policies to ensure demographic balance among Manipur's diverse communities.
As a prelude to the observance, an intra-college spot essay competition was organised on July 10 under the theme "Empowering India's Young Population: Opportunities and Challenges".
The winners were Mutum Dayakumar Singh (1st), Jina Khuraijam of Political Science, 6th Semester (2nd), and Sagolsem Washington of the History Department (3rd).Certificates and cash prizes were presented to the winners by the dignitaries.
The event was attended by Dr S Ranjit Singh, principal, as chief guest; Dr Gurumayum Ranita Devi, head of Economics and dean of Arts, as president; and Ch Somorendro Singh, retired head of Economics, along with M Lokendra Singh, president of AMCTA and head of Chemistry Department, as guests of honour.
