Awareness prog on environment held

As part of the month-long observance of World Environment Day jointly organised by Sendra Youth Club and Loktak Lake Tourism Development Cooperative Society Limited under the sponsorship of Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Loktak Development Authority (LDA) project director and Manipur Pollution Control Board (MPCB) member secretary, an awareness programme along with distribution of Plastic Bottle Bank was held at Sendra, a prime tourism destination on Sunday.
The function was attended by Sendra Youth Club advisor Moirangthem Iboshana Singh and Environment and Climate Change director T Brajakumar Singh as president and chief guest respectively while LDA project director Ng Sanajaoba Meitei, MPCB member secretary Dr W Roshan and Likla Industries proprietor Th Joykuinar were the guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Brajakumar stressed the importance of keeping the environment clean and well-maintained.
He likened it to how visitors remove their shoes before entering a clean and tidy home, suggesting that if tourist spots are kept neat, visitors are less likely to litter.
He also highlighted the need for a local policy to manage plastic waste effectively.
Additionally, the director appealed to everyone to ensure that no garbage or waste is allowed to enter Loktak Lake, stressing the importance of protecting the natural resource.
