Imphal, July 16 2025:
Under the aegis of the Ministry of Jal Shakti, the Water Resources Department (WRD) launched the state's first spring census to initiate a spring-shed management project.
According to a WRD statement, the primary objective of the census is to identify potential springs across the state to ensure their sustainable management and safe utilisation, particularly to address water scarcity during the lean season, especially in the hilly regions of Manipur.
In the first phase, Ukhrul and Kamjong districts have been selected for the survey.
The department has engaged The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) as the implementing agency for the census.
The census initiative was officially launched on Wednesday in Ukhrul district.
WRD expressed gratitude to the Ukhrul district administration for its support and assistance, and also appealed to the local communities to extend full cooperation for the successful conduct of the census.
The Water Resources Department is committed to the sustainable management and conservation of the state's vital spring resources, the statement added.
