CRPF joins plantation drives, holds cycle rally

Under the aegis of inspector general CRPF, Manipur and Nagaland Sector, 86 Battalion CRPF, Lamphelpat, led by its commandant Saurabh Kumar Choudhary, and in collaboration with Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) represented by ICAR Manipur Centre head Dr Ch Basudha Devi, on Sunday conducted a mass tree plantation drive at Awang Wabagai and Eco Park, Khurkhul under Sekmai police station in Imphal West district under the theme "Plant Trees, Save Trees".
The plantation drive was also attended by Imphal West additional DC K Jadumani, KVK, Imphal West senior scientist Dr L Kanta Singh, KVK, CCpur head senior scientist Dr Manoj Kumar Pandey, Imphal West Zila Parishad chairperson L Bobby and ex-zila parishad Priyo Kumar, DFO Central Forest Division, Mantripukhri, Imphal West district administration.
representatives of Awang Wabagai and Khurkhul Welfare Organisation, and personnel of the Battalion.
According to a release issued by 86 Battalion assistant commandant Kamei James Rongmei, the event on Sunday was organised by ICAR- KVK (Imphal West) as a component of the on-going 76th Van Mahotsav, 2025, with the stated objective to restore degraded land, increase green cover and support biodiversity using scientifically selected indigenous species.
Around 700 saplings were planted during the plantation drive.
Speaking on the occasion, commandant Saurabh Kumar emphasised the importance of the environmental conservation and community welfare while Dr Basudha Devi highlighted the role of scientific expertise in ensuring the success and sustainability of the plantation efforts.
The Battalion in collaboration with Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) also carried out a tree plantation drive at RIMS campus on Sunday under the theme 'Ek Ped Maa ke Naam 2.0' during which 500 saplings were planted with the participation of RIMS director Dr Sunil Sharma, additional director, medical superintendent, CEO, teaching staff and students, 86 Bn assistant commandant Kamei James Rongmei and personnel.
Meanwhile, Sport Authority of India in collaboration with 86 Battalion CRPF, Group Centre-CRPF Langjing, Imphal and local clubs organised a cycle rally on the theme "Sunday on Cycle", here, on Sunday.
The rally was flagged off by GC-CRPF commandant Padmashree N Kunjarani Devi in the presence of 86 Battalion commandant Saurabh Kumar Choudhary, second-in-command W Nandini Devi and Chirom Babul Singh, and Neisang Club vice-president.
The cycle rally, which emphasised the importance of fitness and public participation in Fit India Mission, was flagged off from Neinasang Club and Naoremthong, Uripok, Kangla Western Gate, Nituaipat Chuthek, Keishampat Junction, Kwakeithel-Sayang Road, Tera Keithel and concluded at the starting point.
