Thoudam Doren listed for SN Chand award

Imphal, August 05 2025: Cine Artistes and Technicians' Association (CATA) has announced that veteran film producer Thoudam Doren Singh will be conferred the SN Chand Memorial Award (Lifetime Achievement Award) for 2025 in recognition of his contributions to Manipuri cinema.

Doren, who produced the 1983 Manipuri feature film 'Sana Keithel' directed by Maibam Amuthoi, fondly referred to as MA Singh, will be honoured during the memorial event scheduled for August 8, which also marks the birth anniversary of the late SN Chand, widely regarded as the father of Manipuri cinema.

The announcement was made by CATA president G Ranjit Sharma at MSFDS Preview Hall, Palace Compound, on Tuesday.

Ranjit said that the award ceremony will be organised in collaboration with Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) at the MSFDS multipurpose hall.

He appealed to all who are involved in or passionate about the development of Manipuri cinema to attend the memorial event and take part in celebrating the legacy of Sapam Noidachand (SN Chand) .

The SN Chand Memorial Event is held annually since 2006, although it was suspended in recent years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and unrest situation in the state.

This year's programme will also feature the screening of 'Brojendragi Luhongba', the first Manipuri feature film directed by a Manipuri director, the late SN Chand.

Ranjit further said that the event is a tribute to those who laid the foundation of Manipuri cinema and a reminder of the importance of preserving and promoting the state's rich film heritage.
