AR empowers women, pays tribute

In an initiative to promote gender equality and inclusive development, Assam Rifles organised an interactive session on women empowerment at Khudengthabi in Tengnoupal district.
According to PRO IGAR (S), the session focused on encouraging women to embrace self-reliance, equality, and active participation in social and economic spheres.
Participants were introduced to the transformative power of education, skill development and awareness of government welfare schemes designed to uplift women, especially in remote and border regions.
Through open discussions and experience-sharing, the event fostered confidence and community spirit among attendees.
Women were motivated to challenge societal barriers, pursue personal growth, and contribute meaningfully to the progress of their families and communities, the PRO added.
On the other-hand, Assam Rifles on Wednesday paid heartfelt tribute to five soldiers who laid down their lives in the line of duty during a convoy ambush near Lungreiphung, Manipur on August 13, 1991 .
According to PRO IGAR (S), during the solemn wreath-laying ceremony, the force commemorated the supreme sacrifice of havildar Man Bahadur Thapa, and riflemen Dharmesh Singh, Bahadur Singh Rawat Vunkhalian and Lalthoun Gangte, whose courage and devotion to duty continue to inspire generations of solders.
The tragic incident occurred when a special convoy comprising 24 personnel was ambushed while moving along the Shangshak-Gamnam road.
Despite the sudden attack, the troops responded with resolute retaliation.
In the fierce exchange of fire, five brave-hearts sustained fatal injuries, embracing martyrdom in service of the nation, the PRO informed.
