AR pays tribute to martyred soldiers

Assam Rifles of HQ IGAR (South) commemorated the valiant legacy of Shaurya Chakra awardee rifleman Krishna Kumar Singh, who laid down his life in the line of duty during counter-insurgency operations in Manipur.
In a release issued Saturday, PRO IGAR (S) informed that marking 32 years since the heroic action of rifleman Krishna Kumar, a solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held at Chahong Khunou village, Kamjong district, Where he made the supreme sacrifice on August 16, 1993.Acting on specific intelligence regarding an armed insurgent responsible for a civilian killing in Pihang village, Ukhrul district, a team was launched from Maokot Post.
AS the team approached the target location, they came under sudden automatic fire.
Rifleman Krishna Kumar Singh responded with fierce determination, engaging the insurgent in a fierce fire-fight.
Despite sustaining grievous injuries, he continued suppressive fire, forcing the insurgent to retreat into the jungle.
His fearless action led to the recovery of multiple weapons and live ammunition, and the apprehension of one insurgent.
For his exceptional bravery and selflessness, he was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra, recalled the PRO.
Assam Rifles also conducted a solemn wreath-laying ceremony to honour the valour of riflemen Ananta Sharma, Ram Surat Pal, Santosh Kumar and Shaitya Ram Rabha, who laid down their lives in the line of duty during an ambush on the Chassad-Imphal road on August 17, 1994 .
In another release issued Sunday, the PRO recounted that a patrol party of Assam Rifles was conducting a search operation along the Chassad-Imphal road when it came under heavy fire from insurgents.
In the ensuing firefight, four brave soldiers sustained fatal injuries, displaying exceptional courage and devotion to duty in the face of grave danger.
To honour the fallen heroes, the gathering paid heartfelt homage to the courage and sacrifice of the brave-hearts, whose unwavering commitment to duty continues to inspire generations.
Their legacy was remembered with deep respect, reinforcing the enduring spirit of service and valour that defines Assam Rifles, the PRO informed.
