Vety Dept signs Moll with NIC for livestock insurance

Imphal, July 04 2025:
Department of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Services, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)'with National Insurance Company (NIC), Imphal, on Friday at the veterinary director's office chamber for implementation of Livestock Insurance under the National Livestock Mission (NLM) in Manipur.
A press release issued by V&AH Services, director Rk Khogendrajit Singh said that the initiative aims to promote livestock health and security across the state.
Under this scheme, the premium rate is fixed at 5.25 per cent of the insured animal's value, with the beneficiary (farmer) contributing 15 per cent of the premium amount, while the Central and State share the remaining 85 per cent.
The scheme covers horses and ponies, in addition to cattle, buffalo, mithun, yak, donkey, mules, sheep, goat, camel, pig, and rabbit, and aims to reduce financial losses for farmers.
This is a significant step toward improving livestock welfare and providing financial protection to farmers in Manipur.
