Special driving training for IDPs ends

A one-month long special driving training programme for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) organised by the Institute of Driver Training & Research Centre (IDTRC), Manipur concluded on Monday.
The valedictory function of the programme held at IDTRC complex, Yaralpat in Imphal East district was attended by IDTRC advisory committee chief advisor IAS (retired) M Laxmikumar as chief guest, advisory committee member retired SE (PWD) Subash Mukherjee as president and Thangjam Agro Privates Limited proprietor Thangjam Joykumar as guest of honour.
Around 200 applicants from Imphal West and Imphal East districts applied for the training but only 29 applicants were selected for the training for the first phase.
Upon completion of the training, certificates and learner's licence were distributed to the successful trainees.
Speaking as chief guest at the event, M Laxmikumar highlighted that the Government of India is yet to fully mitigate the sufferings of the people displaced by the violence since May 3, 2023 which poses a huge challenge for the society.
He said that IDTRC Manipur organised the training programme considering the plight of the displaced persons, explaining that the idea being that displaced persons could help their families financially after obtaining driving licence.
"The centre will send a proposal to the government for giving priority to displaced persons holding a driving licence in job recruitment," he added.
