Imphal, July 17 2025: Hiyangthang Tarahei Konjil on Thursday organised the 7th edition of the 'Chahigi Pukmen Paomennaba Thouram' at the Royal Palace with Manipur's titular King and Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba presiding over the annual session.

Addressing the gathering, MP Sanajaoba expressed concern over gradual fading of the age-old traditions and stressed the importance of reviving ancestral customs to strengthen the historical bonds between the Meetei and the Meitei Pangal communities.

He, however, expressed hope that the 'Chahigi Pukmen Paomennaba Thouram' would evolve into a significant state-level event in the years ahead.

Starting next year, he said, the event is planned for conduct in other states like Tripura and Assam, as well as in Bangladesh, to reconnect with Meitei Pangal communities residing outside Manipur.

As part of the event, members of the Meitei Pangal community, under the banner of the Meitei Pangal Eegi Khonggul Liba Foundation Committee Manipur, brought seasonal vegetables and fruits cultivated in their courtyards and offered them to the titular king.

This symbolic gesture, echoed by Meitei Pangals from different parts of the state, revived a traditional practice from earlier times when Meitei Muslims would present home-grown produce to the kings.

The tradition also involved a communal interaction, where the King would sit at the centre surrounded by members of the Meitei Pangal community to discuss their concerns and challenges.

Re-enacting the same spirit of unity, Thursday's gathering featured an open discussion between the titular king and the community on various prevailing issues and efforts to restore peace in the state.
