Assam Rifles observes Van Mahotsav

Beginning from July 1, the Assam Rifles marked commencement of the week-long "Van Mahotsav" campaign with a series of tree plantation drives across various districts of the state.
According to PRO IGAR (S), the initiative was taken up in collaboration with the forest departments of Tengnoupal, Chandel, Kakching and Churachandpur districts.
The events witnessed active participation from Assam Rifles personnel, forest officials, divisional forest officers (DFOs) from Chandel, Sugnu, Kakching, Tengnoupal and Churachandpur, as well as the chief conservator of forests (Administration & Planning), Government of Manipur, the PRO informed.
The PRO further conveyed that the presence of school children, teachers, education officers from zonal education officer (ZEO) Tengnoupal, principals of EMRS Moreh and Preach Heritage Academy, Chakpikarong and leaders from various civil society organisations (CSOs) underlined a shared commitment to environmental conservation.
Sapling plantation drives were conducted at schools and other key locations, with the involvement of more than 100 Assam Rifles personnel and 200 civilians, including children, teachers, and community members.
The campaign was formally inaugurated with the ceremonial planting of saplings by dignitaries, symbolising the launch of an ambitious drive to plant 1,000 saplings each in Tengnoupal and Chandel districts.
In Kakching, the campaign was aptly themed 'Ek Ped Maa ke Naam', with participants pledging to plant and nurture trees in honour of mothers, further strengthening the emotional and cultural significance of the initiative, the PRO conveyed.
