AR pays tribute to braveheart

A solemn wreath-laying ceremony was organised by Assam Rifles at Mantripukhri to pay tribute to rifleman Nepali Tamang who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
According to a PRO IGAR (S) release, on May 5, 1960, a column moving from Imphal to Dimapur came under heavy volume of fire from unknown insurgent group near Kamru around 1.30 pm, which the troops immediately retaliated leading to heavy exchange of fire and gunshot wounds suffered by Nepali Tamang, who succumbed to injuries.
The tribute event was attended by all ranks from Assam Rifles who paid their respects to the fallen hero.
The wreath-laying ceremony was a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by the brave soldiers of Assam Rifles, said the PRO, adding that the Assam Rifles has a proud history of valour and sacrifice and this ceremony was a tribute to the indomitable spirit of its brave hearts.
