Many mourn demise of Ratan Thiyam

Imphal, July 25 2025: Many organisations and individuals expressed deep condolences over the untimely demise of theatre legend Padma Shri Ratan Thiyam.

In separate releases, Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur, Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak, Manipur Cultural Organisation, Manipur State Council All India Students' Federation, Manipur Peoples' Party, Taragi Cheishu, Khundongbam Brojendro Cultural Trust, Roop Raag, Liberty Theatre Kakching, Sivakumar (SK) Memorial Music College, Kakching and Film Forum Manipur mourned the untimely passing away of the legendary theatre maestro.

They remembered Ratan Thiyam as one of the most revered sons of the soil - a man whose life and work transcended the stage into the depth and width of the society, cultures and civilisation.

"His unparalleled contributions through theatre, literature and cultural leadership reminded us that art is a sacred space - a mirror of society, a call for justice, and a bridge between tradition and transformation," said the mourners.

While praying for his departed soul to rest in peace, the organisations also informed of observing silence at their respective office as a mark of respect to the departed theatre icon.
