Farmers resume field work at Sadu Lampak

Imphal, June 24 2025:
Farmers from Pukhao-Leitanpokpi village in Imphal East district resumed ploughing of their paddy fields at Sadu Lampak under security protection on Monday.
Notably, farmers were unable to tend to their fields at Sadu Lampak since June 15 after tension gripped the area due to Kukis settled nearby obstructed farming activities.
The situation escalated to stone pelting and slingshot firing between the Meeteis and Kukis, prompting security forces to intervene and avert a direct confrontation.
In view of the earlier incident and the difficulties faced by farmers in ploughing their paddy fields, adequate security personnel were deployed in the area from early Monday morning and farmers resumed their ploughing and related activities.
Security deployment in the area is likely to continue to ensure safety of farmers till completion of the seed sowing activities.
On the other hand, security personnel deployed in the area reportedly spoke with the Kukis settled nearby and asked them not to obstruct Leitanpokpi farmers from carrying out their agricultural activities.
It is learnt that the Kukis gave assurance not to obstruct farming activities in the area.
